This year was a big year for Annika. She carved her Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin all by herself. Dan had traced the pattern and she followed it with her little carving knife. She was pretty proud of herself.

Taryn requested Tinkerbell. Here are the finished products:
And, here is Landon's Pluto pumpkin.
I am very annoyed about this for two reasons:
1) The darn kids that threw the pumpkin in the street really need to be taught a lesson!! Wonder if I could find out who did it and wait 20 years until they have kids of their own. Then I will hunt them down, take the pumpkins they carved with their kids and chuck them into the street. See how they feel when they have to explain to their kids why someone threw their pumpkins into the street. For some reason Tinkerbell and the Jack-o-lantern survived. Maybe they weren't huge Pluto fans? Now when Landon looks at the pumpkins on the porch he says "What happened Pludo? Broke in da street?" Grrr!!!
2) I didn't take a picture right away. I thought I would just take a picture when they are lit up "tomorrow night"...little did I know there wouldn't be a "tomorrow night!" Plus, Pluto was the hardest for Dan to do and it came out looking pretty darn great! Oh well, mental note for next year.
In the meantime, to all your pumpkin chunkers out there, watch out, I will find you!!

That is so sad and I totally relate to poor Landon (and Dan). We lived in a very homogeneous upper middle class area with no crime.. except for teenage pranks like pumpkin smashing. We had to bring our pumpkins in every night. Sad. But here in the 'Bridge where there are serious crime statistics, all the neighborhood pumpkins are safe. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI was actually glad it wasn't Annika's...Landon is young enough he doesn't even really care.
ReplyDeleteThe next day Annika drew/cut out a pair of eyes and put them in the side light next to the door. Reb and I thought it was to watch for the pumpkin chuckers, but she told us it was scary...you know...for Halloween.
That is so sad (and maddening) about the Pluto pumpkin. Kudos to Dan for Tinker Bell. It looks great. I can't believe Annika craved her own pumpkin. I am sure she did better than I could!
ReplyDeleteIf the tinkerbell wasn't as good as the pluto, the pluto must have really been excellento. I was impressed with the Tinkerbell. Good for Annika...hers also is impressive. Way to go Annika. We had pumpkins from some of the grands this year but the weather was so warm in IA that the poor things wilted last week already. They could have joined Landon't pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteThis made me so sad. We are carving pumpkins tonight. I am telling my boys tonight they better never grow up to be pumpkin smashers. ;(
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't have to do with pumpkins, but a revelent story. I have a friend who when very preo with her 2nd child saw some middle school kids take a political sign from her yard. She chased them down the street pregnant self and all and caught them. She had them give her their parents numbers so she could call them.
ReplyDeleteSoo sad! We had Trey's very cool batman one year get not smashed but taken...it ticked me off and crushed him! We were having the "when you grow up, you better never!" yesterday :)
