Every once and awhile I have a time where I think to myself, "wow, you are such a smart mom." Last week, I had one of those moments. Yeah, just one..hmmm....I would like to think maybe there were more.
This moment involved Landon. Landon is a very tactile little man. He loves having his hands in stuff, and has a very hard time keep his hands to himself. Even if we duct taped his hands together, he would still find away to get into things he shouldn't. This boy is also lover of trucks and dirt. Trucks in the dirt is even better. If we were at Disney World and there was a construction site next door, he would prefer to sit and watch the diggers and pay loaders all day long. The Happiest Place on Earth for this guy is anywhere there is dirt and heavy machinery.
So what does this have to do with my moment of mommy brilliance? I needed a way to keep Landon occupied for awhile and going outside wasn't an option on this particular day. I told him to go downstairs to play with his trucks, but he gave me a look like "been there, done that." And a bored Landon is not a good thing.
Ding, ding, an obscure little picture in my latest Family Fun magazine came to mind and this was the best time to try it out...I present to you, the Landon Distractor:
Now some of you may be thinking this is old news, but for me coming up with something other than crayons and play doh is a big deal. I was speaking Landon's language.
Can I tell you that some oatmeal, corn meal, peanuts and cheap plastic trucks kept this little guy's hands busy for just about an hour and a half?!? That is HUGE for us. Yep, as I cleaned up his little construction site, you can bet I gave myself a little pat on the back.
Now, I just need to come up with a Simon Distractor...

I can't wait until Simon is old enough that he and Landon can get into stuff together...er I mean play together.

Great idea Reb!! :) I always love it when the kids get busy with something creative like that.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way I'm gonna get the two words below to "prove i'm not a robot". That does not appear to be the english language below.
You are a SMART mom. Now, just so he doesn't try this on his carpeted floor. :-)
