The Day has finally arrived!!

I am very nervous to write this post. I am nervous because I don't want to jinx anything. I don't want to be prideful and then fall. I don't want this goodness to end! And, I, definitely, don't want regression. The day I have dreamed of for just short of 10 years has finally come....

Simon is potty-trained!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to yell it from the rooftops. I want to tell everyone that passes by. It's happened. It finally happened. Simon has figured out that pooping and peeing in the potty is WAY cooler than wearing a diaper. Plus, he gets candy. Lots of candy.

I never thought this would happen. I truly thought that I would hear the crinkle of a diaper as he met his bride at the altar.  He simply had no interest. It was all a big joke to him.  But, as of last Monday, he got it. The Sunday before, I told him "tomorrow there aren't going to be any more diapers." He looked at me and said, "O.k." Monday came, and only one accident. What?! Miracles do happen!! He goes on his own, for the most part, and even does "#2" on his own.  We have done a few nights in undies and he wakes up dry. Glory! Hallelujah!! Can you tell that I am excited? :)

Dan and I were talking yesterday about this new-found freedom, and, on our own, we both distinctly remembered something that happened probably about 7 years ago.  It was Sunday and we were walking out of our church in Lorton, Virginia. We were talking to another couple, Jody and Jamie, whose kids are a few years older that ours. I think their youngest of four kids is about Annika's age.  Anyway, they were going out for lunch after church because they were celebrating finally being diaper free after 10 years. I remember thinking, "Wow! That is a long time" Followed by the thought "will we ever be diaper free?" Obviously, since this story stuck in Dan's brain too, he was probably thinking the same thing. And, now, our time is here.

I did a little bit of math... Annika is currently 9 years and 10 months, or 118 months old. We have had a child, or even at times, children, in diapers for approximately 3589 days. There was always an overlap...there was always a diaper to change. If you average 5 diapers a day (sometimes more as newborns and less as toddlers), that is a total of 17,945 diapers. The average cost of a diaper is about 25 cents each. That's a whopping $4486.25 spent on diapers since Annika was born. Oh. My. Goodness!!

Yep, totally think we deserve a celebratory dinner and I will leave the diaper bag at home. ;)

He came and he conquered...showing off his muscles :)

Funny face!

    1. LL, don't do the math, I think it will make you sad since you have just about double the kids I do. :) Unless you use cloth diapers?
