In November, Dan entered my chicken chili into a chili cook off for his division in his company. Out of nine chilies, my chili got second place! Not too bad. Well, last Friday was his company wide chili cook off. He wanted me to enter my chicken chili again. This time the competition was a little more fierce, there were 5 different categories...beef, pork, hot, poultry, vegetarian, and other (don't even want to know what's in that!!) to make a total of 34 different chilies competing. Wasn't sure how my little simple chicken chili would hold up.
Dan called me after the competition to let me know that (...drum roll please...) my chili won the poultry category! I thought that was pretty cool. Then he went on to tell me that it was also the Grand Champion!! It beat out all the other chilies in all the other categories to take home the grand prize! Ain't that grand?!
So maybe I won't be the Next Fo*d Network Star, but I am a star in my own kitchen! Or at least that's what I tell myself. Us stay at home moms will take all we can get!
Hmmm...wonder what I need to do to enter that little Pillsbury Bake Off thing?
super congrats girl! I think you need to post that recipe! =)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think that is just so cool that a Dutch girl wins a chili cook-off contest. Mark and Michelle (your brother M&M)won one a few years ago as well! Who said that the Dutch don't have spice--and we show it in our cookin' too! Mom
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see that recipe, too! I make a chicken chili, too--wonder if it's the same recipe. We have a chili cook-off at our school tomorrow. I didn't think I should enter, though, because my husband is a judge. :) Judy Wiers
ReplyDeleteI never remember having chili growing up, but somehow we now have two award-winning chili recipes in the family! Nice job Reb!
ReplyDeleteWell do you get a plaque to hang in your kitchen? Congrats! My fave comment on my blog for last post was by DE! If I have a chance late tonight I will reveal!
ReplyDeletethat is AWESOME. You are a rock star.
ReplyDeleteSo are you gonna share the recipe with us or what? ;)ses
ReplyDeleteFork it over Eekhoff - I want the recipe. Great job - maybe your next post could be - name my show on food network
ReplyDeleteI gave one of my coworkers the recipe after the first contest. After that I told Reb she should just keep it a secret, just because it could be her "specialty" from now on.
ReplyDeleteSorry ladies...From one of the greatest sitcoms ever "NO SOUP FOR YOU!" :)

ReplyDeletehey, you know me - i love chicken. i'd love your recipe. don't listen to dan. i'd never be at the same gatherings at your home so you can share it with me ;)
