Last week we had a blast with my mom's side of the family. We spent the week up in Southwest Harbor, Maine eating, drinking, laughing, playing games, and doing whatever else you do at reunions. The weather was great and except for a few showers it was a refreshing break from the sweltering heat we had been feeling in the Midwest. There were 6 cabins split among a total of 43 people. My siblings and my family were in one. It made for tight quarters, but we still left loving each other. However, I did think it was a little easier to say
goodbye knowing our own rooms and beds awaited us at home!
Since I don't want to dump a whole load of pictures on you at a time...I will try to blog about the reunion in installments.
Lobstah! The first night we had some "Maine Sea Bugs" also know as lobster. The kids weren't too impressed, but it was good stuff! (Once you figured out how to get the meat out!)
Table set for a feast! This is how we ate dinner most of the week

Michelle didn't have to cook her lobster, she just scared it to death!

I think Taryn thought this lobster was about to crawl off the plate, as you can see she opted for the hot dog...
There was a lot of this going on this week...just sitting around and hanging out...
Next up...the Beard Contest!
You forgot we had clams with that meal too. The last time we were in Maine I had Lobstah for the first time. This time I tried clams with Aaron (next to me in the Lobstah shot) for the first time. I'm still sticking with crab legs as my favorite seafood dish.
ReplyDeleteI had mussels in Boston for the first time and they were amazing -- not so intimidated by mussels anymore! If you want some good crab, you know the Pacific Northwest is a GREAT place for them! Hint, hint. A little tidbit along those lines, one of the boats from the Deadliest Catch is actually docked near my house.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the reunion is over already -- time to start planning the next one!
Those lobsters look delicious.
ReplyDeleteA couple of weeks ago Wesley talked us into taking him to Red Lobster for lunch. When his popcorn shrimp arrived at the table, he asked, "Why didn't I get lobster?"
Those Lobstah's look huge. No wonder Taryn was scared of them.
ReplyDeleteDo Lobstahs turn red after you boil them? As you can tell I have never had them.
ReplyDeleteso fun! i love the pics!! was this the trip where another contest was involved, haha ;) who won??
