Our Budding Pianist

It's the right of passage for every child. Some love it, some hate it, and some, as adults, wish they would have practiced more (ahem). Piano lessons. Annika started in September and she, so far, is loving it.  She wants to skip ahead in her books and just do the "grown up" songs.  Which, I am guessing, are the ones where you play more than one note at a time.  But, in all things, baby steps.

She had her first recital last night.  I was actually caught a little off guard as to how choked up I would be. She was one of the few kids that did her piece from memory.  For her first time playing in front of a group, I was impressed.  Playing in front of people didn't seem to phase her one bit.  Maybe because I am pretty sure she doesn't care one bit what people think. Good for her!

Such a big girl!

Didn't get the best view for this video, will know better for next time.
Had to get an "action shot." This was after the recital was done. Didn't want to mess up her concentration! :)

Way to go Annika! You worked super hard on your piece and mommy and daddy are SO proud of you!

  2. It's hard not to be proud of your kids...never thought I'd feel the way I do about the seemingly small things they do. This was a big deal to us! Fun to watch her mom beam with pride after she was done.

    Three things:
    - Notice how she almost walked away after her solo...she didn't want the teacher to steal her thunder :).
    - She forgot to bow like the other kids...maybe because it was no big thang.
    - Does anyone else notice how that song starts out sounding like Harry Potter?

  4. That was beautiful, brought back plenty of memories. Heidi took piano for 12 years & lots of recitals. It's awesome that she loves playing! Great job Annika!
Take your bow next time, you deserve it.

  7. I remember doing a duet with the teacher. :) I fully agree with Rachel that we should all get to see/hear an Annika/Mommy duet!. Congrats on the first recital and hopefully many more to come!

  8. So great! Great job, Annika! Yep, you're better than me now.

And, Holy Smokes, does she look like Rebekah! Wow! When she got up and then turned around to find the teacher, it is a spitting image of Reb! (I'm thinking of a specific home video of Reb in particular that I'm sure will never be viewed on this blog.) Am I the only one to notice this!?

I'm looking forward to many more videos (of any of the kids!).

Lydia would love for me to braid her hair like that. I failed miserably this morning.
