Time Flies

I've really got to stop this blinking thing. Every year I get so nostalgic when it comes to back to school time...like this year, this year, and the year that Annika started Kindergarten.  Never stops! Like I said in my last post Life goes on!  We see the seasons come and go. We see our kids grow older (and taller!). But, it's milestones like the first day of school that really makes us realize how fast time goes by.

Today, my heart was tugged for two reasons.

13 years ago, today, I said goodbye to my Pops.  He left this earth a lot earlier than we would have liked, but who am I to determine how long? Because if it was up to us, nothing would ever be long enough. I still have a hard time remembering the night when he suddenly left this world for this true Home. It is all a blur. But that seems to be how things happen when you are in the midst of it. It's a whirlwind of memories swirling around. There's a beginning and an end, but I don't remember much of the middle.  I do know that I miss him and he would be very proud of where all of his kids (and 8(!) grand kids) are right now.  I can still see his smile, and, perhaps, that's all I need to remember.

Fast forward to today, my little Landon Keith (named after my pops) started Kindergarten! Life goes on. And, talk about a whirlwind! I remember the first time we found out that we were having a boy (Dan would have done a cartwheel if there was enough room in the doc's office) and here he is with his big size 13 feet starting a real school with real school days. There's a beginning and kind of an end (to him staying at home with me, at least) and the middle is all a blur. And, there is no way, I will forget this little guy's smile today...so brave and so proud of going to school.

Time flies.

  1. Wow...does that backpack and hallway look huge! No wonder we remember everything being so much bigger. I love my big boy!

  3. That is a great picture of you and your dad. My memories are of us sitting around the table at your folks house when we came out for the wedding, telling stories and etc. I am sure he would be so proud of Landon Keith. That smile on the steps is so precious. He does have a great smile, just like his dad "nickles".
