Calling all aspiring designers!

I need your opinion please! When we move (this weekend, yeah!), I am going to put the girls in a room together. I got a steal on some beds on craig's list. Now I am looking for some new bedding. After reading about the deals my friend got at Home Goods, I decided to check them out. I found two twin sets of bedding that come with all the sheets, dust ruffle, quilt and shams for what I thought was a really good deal (after more research and looking around I have realized that I found a great deal!). Anyway, I brought them home and Dan said, "Are you kidding, it looks like an old lady's house!" I said, "it's shabby chic!" He said "it's shabby something, that's for sure." I was chatting with my sister-in-law, and she said to open it up to my fellow bloggers and blog readers to see what they thought. The girls' beds are dark mahogany and we are going to do white wainscotting (or beadboard) around the base of the wall with "Blue Willow" paint on the top.

Here are two pictures of the bedding...trust me I won't be offended if you too thinks it's "old lady!" (No offense to all the old ladies out there!)

So, what do ya'll think?!

  1. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (is that enough exclamation points?!) old lady, shmady. you'll get to do the 'boy' thing (ie sports, cars, tractors, etc) soon ;-)

  2. I think it's absolutely adorable! Will they be different patterns or the same design for both girls?

  3. Okay, I'm going to stir things up a little and be TOTALLY honest- a little old lady-ish only because the flowers are small/delicate. However!...it's also not my taste. Lastly, it looks very similar to the Cherry Blossom set at PBK, so what do I know? ;)

  4. Here is my opinion...I would do a duvet in a solid or stripe and put the quilt at the base of the bed...You get that "old fashioned" feel but it is tied in with something more modern. I did this on Lizzie's bed and it made the bed so much better looking. It's all about layers! I really like it though, the pattern that is and the blue walls. Perfect choice.

  5. It's pretty. A little grown-up. I'd spunk it up with a fun paint color, or some bright pillows and sheets. That will help you play down the old lady.

  6. I think it is beautiful. And it is NOT old ladyish. It is very girly. Give Dan some words and tell him you are very glad he is so secure in his manhood but he knows nothing about girliness. And it is not shabby something. But let me just give you some food for thought. Be very sure that you don't want to do the charcter thing. I got Son1 some very cool Dean Miller surf stuff. The room is beautiful and surf themed. But you know what? He really would prefer character stuff. So just make sure that you want to go this route.

  7. I think the savings speaks for itself! You have to be flexible when decorating and working with a budget. Tell Dan the savings and I bet he'll love it! You can always throw a solid color at the end of the bed as well or a solid pillow case (when you find them on sale, of course!)and remember, never pay full price for anything!

  8. okay, i think it is really sweet and from those pictures my vote would be to keep them. i will, however, SEE for myself on thursday. 'old lady-ish" would be if the colors were green and yellow, you know what kind of colors i mean. :) it looks like the patterns are in a pretty subtle color scheme.

  9. BEAUTIFUL bedding. Decorate it the way you want to now, with all of the cute little girly things, because it won't be long until they want to put the funky cool stuff in there......

And I am one of those people who puts things on the list they have already done, just so I can mark something off. I thought I was the ONLY one!!!

  10. I would have said shabby chic too and my hubby would have said the same thing Dan said, ha! I totally feel you on the shabby chic! It's cute, I agree with LL, but I think it would look great with some fun accessories in the room. A cute fun lamp, some fun wall art, great find!

  11. Honestly, I think it could go either way, but like Rachel and Lora Lynn said, put some bright striped throw pillows or something in there and it'll look great! And we can't forget accessories, it's not like the beds will be the only things in the room, little girl type lamps or a throw rug will alter the look of the whole room just enough! Don't let Dan get you down. ;)

  13. Since I haven't seen a guy respond to this post, I better make our voice known. Frankly I don't think I would care so much as long as I (or in this case Dan) have the majority voice in the decoration of the boy's (Landon's) room. I would be more than happy to give over control of the girl's room, since guys have no real sense of feminine style at all, but you ladies have to then realize that we guys do know how to really decorate a little boys room.

  14. I think the dark bed will change the look completely. Dan is probably relating it to his sister's wallpaper when they were little :-)
I agree with some of the other comments about some solid or striped pillows. The savings is worth it until they can decide for themselves how they want to decorate.

  15. "old lady" is the new "young and fresh"!

  16. I think it is ok with the wall color. If you were doing pink walls, it would be way too girly for me. If you were keeping the walls white, it would be too drab. Of course you are getting advice from your friend who can probably count on her hands how many times her daugther has worn dresses in the past 16 months! I would also choose a solid color chenille throw or something to keep folded with the blanket. Also, I think since your furniture is dark, it will look better than the picture. I am not a fan of white furniture with white bedding.

  17. If your girls are anything like mine you won't actually see the bedspread most of the time becaue it will be covered with books and clothes. :)

I think it is cute and girly....I like it.

  18. I know I'm late commenting but since I love to decorate, I had to put in my 2 cents worth. I completely agree with the person who said you'll never see it b/c it'll be covered with books, etc! Ha, that was funny. I think it's important to like the sheets b/c the bed will never be made like the picture on the package! Seriously though, I like it a lot, it's sweet, and classic.
