Being Thankful #2 Seasons

The seasons in Southern California, where I grew up, are fire season and non-fire season.  When you look at the 5-day forecast, it's usually 78 degrees and sunny.  Every. Single. Day.  Oh, don't get me wrong, when it's -10 degree windchill out here in Kansas, you can bet I am missing Sunny SoCal.  But, there is something to be said about the changing of the seasons.  This year Fall took it's sweet ole' time coming, but now it's here.  I am loving it!  Mmm...the crisp cool air mixed with the smell of fireplaces and dry leaves.  Just makes you want to fill up on a warm bowl of chili (with a cinnamon roll on the side).

Then there are the colors.  The colors of Fall are gorgeous. Granted, we aren't anywhere close to New England when it comes to leaf peeping and fall foliage, but this is the scene that greets me when I leave home:

Then there are the Fall activities.

I know you can do them in 80 degree weather, but bundling up for a hayride is half the fun!
Taryn at the Cider Mill with her Pre-K class
Dan had his annual pumpkin carving night.  Annika chose to carve her pumpkin again this year.

Here are Dan's finished products:
Jake and Izzy from Jake and The Neverland Pirates
Of course, Halloween (or Reformation Day!) is a highlight when it comes to Fall events.
This year we had an Island Girl, Belle, a Pirate and a cow.

I am thankful for seasons...especially Fall.  Hope you are enjoying your Fall whether it be in shorts and t-shirts or snow boots and parkas!

"As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease."
Gen. 8:22

  1. I have to agree with you on this! However, as the fall temps get colder and colder, I do sometimes find myself longing for some warm Santa Ana winds! :)

  2. I was just saying this the other day when someone said "Do you miss California?" I always look forward to the "next" season...all year long!

  3. I agree, it is fun to curl up with a good book with snow softly falling outside. HOWEVER, it is not so fun to go out on an icy sidewalk but usually a day and it will change. I do enjoy a hot summer day too. I am thankful that God gives us variety. I am also so very thankful for the 4 cute munchkins in the post.
