My Mental Health Day

Today I am taking a vacation day.  We had 3 snow days last week,  today there isn't any school for Landon, and everyone has school off tomorrow and Monday. Yes, you counted correctly, we have had only 5 days of school so far in the month of February. In order to prepare for the upcoming time off, today I will be taking a vacation day. Some may call it a "Mental Health Day." Makes total sense doesn't it?  In order to prepare for tomorrow, I will be doing next to nothing today.  I will keep my expectations low. Perhaps it's because I know that anything I would have accomplished today will just be destroyed tomorrow.

Granted, I didn't expect to take today off (I haven't even told my boss yet!). I got up at 5:35 to go to my 6:10 workout class, showered, brought the girls to school, and then went to Landon's Parent Teacher conference at 8.  Got home at 8:30 and looked at the long "to-do" list that i put together last night and decided I am going to cash in a PTO day. Right now its 12:05 p.m. What have I crossed off that list? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zip.

What does and will my mental health day look like?
1) The boys watched WAY over the "recommended" amount of t.v. today. They are still in their pajamas.

2)I sat on my chair, under a blanket, talked to my sister (who is now back in a reasonable time zone), read the newspaper, read a book, and did my Bible study.

3) After I pulled the boys away from the t.v.,  I let them do one of their favorite activities and I may not sweep up after they are done.

4) These dishes may not be done and the dishwasher may not be unloaded.

5) These rooms will look like this for the rest of the day.

6) This bed will not be made.

7) This laundry will not be put away.

8) This layer of dust will stay here for one more day.

And because it's a mental health day, I am o.k. with all of this. Really, I promise.

I have the girls' Valentine's Day parties this afternoon and a freezer meal defrosted and ready to go for dinner tonight. Sounds like a great vacation day to me!

But, all good things must end, so if you come over tomorrow, watch out, because I'll have an even longer list of things to do and I may even put you to work.

However, if you come over today, bring coffee and be prepared to sit and just chat because, this mama is on vacation!

So, tell me when was the last time you took a mental health day? What didn't you do? :)

  2. Although you did not submit your PTO request 24 hours prior to taking it, I will approve it...and count it as my Valentine's Gift :)!

  3. You inspired me to not to pick up the toys that are all out of the toy box and to take a much needed nap instead! Thanks!
