First "Camping" Trip of the season!

We had such great intentions this past Memorial Day weekend. We decided that we would try camping with the kiddos on Sunday night. We would stay close so if all went downhill at 2 in the morning we could pack up and head home. We borrowed some gear from Dan's boss because we didn't want to drop some bucks on a tent only to find out we won't ever do it again. The kids were excited and so was I. I grew up camping and I would love to have my kids have the same experiences as I did.

Then Sunday came. We had been checking the forecast and saw the chance of thunderstorms. We waited until the very last minute, and decided to call it off. Thunderstorms with rain and lightening doesn't make for a very good time in a tent. So, what to do?

Camping in the basement! Otherwise known as "Dan and girls sleep in the tent while mom sleeps upstairs in her bed." As excited as the girls were for camping, this was a good compromise. As long as there are still going to be cinnamon rolls in the morning. :)

  1. Camping inside = Easy pack up for Daddy + Not so easy to get up off the floor after a night in just a sleeping bag!

    Favorite question of the night:
Taryn - "Why can't we have a fire inside (in the basement)?"
Annika - "because it will cause an emergency!"

  2. Good thinking Annika, that would cause a bit of an emergency for sure :) I grew up camping too and loved it and wish it just wasnt as much work as a grown up :) seems you have to pack your whole house up...ha. although i want to give it a try again now that i am not prego anymore and without a baby...i may enjoy it a little more...looks like you guys made the best of it!

  3. A few weeks ago we had to leave after camping only one night because of a high wind warning. The kids were most disappointed to miss the second night of s'mores. So we did them in the microwave and the kids were happy. I am sure they would have been even happier to sleep in the tent in the basement with Daddy.

  4. I LOVE it. Especially the part about Mommy up in her bed! Your plans for camping sound very much like our plans...close to home, and borrowing before buying. Our plans fell through for Mem. weekend too, but no tent in basement for us!
