The tree that was directly out our living room windows just wasn't going to cut it. It was a Bradford Pear that was going to get tall but not wide. Since we get all afternoon sun coming through the windows, we wanted something that would grow tall and spread wide to block the sun. Dan planted an Autumn Blaze Maple in it's place. There were two other "trees" in the backyard that were so pathetic. They were more like sticks with a few leaves. Really not giving us the privacy we were looking for so we hope to replace those with some Ash trees.
A few pics of the process...
Goodbye tree (Dan mourning or just praying that he made the right decision to cut down a perfectly healthy tree?)
Hey! Mom! Look what we did!

Just one teeny tiny shovelful at a time...we have been having them work at this for about 3 weeks now.

More child labor. Once you hang up with Greenpeace you can call CPS.

p.s. Thanks to a tip from my favorite money saving website (www.becentsable.net) we were able to save $95 with a buy 1 tree get 1 tree free coupon from Home Depot! Check it out if you are in the market for some trees, offer ends 4/26!

Who knew a hole in the ground could entertain kids for hours? FYI, it was very stressful cutting down the one good tree, and deciding what trees to plant in place of the old ones and where. I can now say that I know a whole lot more about a lot of different varieties of trees though...ah more random information in my brain!
ReplyDeleteYay, i just found your blog! I was scrolling back through your older posts and ran across the one about you moving and was like "oh no, we were just starting to get to know them" and then went back again and saw the date...you had me for a second :)
ReplyDeleteThat was quite a big hole to dig by hand. I bet you really felt like you accomplished alot on Sat. That new tree looks pretty good size already. Good job Dan. (like the halo above your head)
ReplyDeleteHi Mom E! I saw the same halo LOL! Dan, you are the man...CPS told me they'd have a car drive by ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe planted 2 autumn blaze maple trees on the South side of our house. In time they are gonna offer great shade!! Maybe by the time Georgia is 25? :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go on that coupon Reb!! That's awesome!
