Favorite Things February #12: OLYMPICS!!!

Dan hinted to this favorite thing in his comment yesterday. We are HUGE Olympics fans! We even thought we would make the trek up to Canada (eh?) for this Winter Olympics. But, I think that will have to wait until the kids are a bit older. London 2012, anyone? If we had a bucket list "going to the Olympics" would definitely be on it. Annika's birth fell in the middle of the Summer Olympics in Athens of 2004. It was a nice distraction during the tediousness of labor and delivery.

I love the comradery and the excitement that surrounds the next 16 days. Whether or not you like sports doesn't really matter. It's cool to think that the whole nation is rooting for the same team. We want our athletes to represent the U.S. of A. for the sake of pure patriotism. It's that desire that makes us hold our breath when a figure skater jumps into the air only to land on a thin sliver of metal. It makes us will the downhill skier forward who races down the hill at speeds up to 80 miles an hour. We sit at the edge of our couches watching those speed skaters race turn after turn. It makes our hearts sink when we see the "favorite" fall or come just short of that gold medal. It kinda takes my breath away when I see a fellow American stand on top of the podium with the gold medal around their necks trying not to cry while singing the beloved National Anthem. That's why I love the Olympics.

My friend over at We Six Yohos had a link to a fun quiz.
Take the quiz and let me know how well you did in the comments section.

I only got 7 out of 10 right which makes me a Silver Medalist. That's o.k I wear more silver than gold anyway.

Oh, you bet our DVR is set up and ready to go for the Opening Ceremonies tonight!

  1. I too got 7 out of 10, but I am contesting two of them!! I won't say too much here so that I don't give others an unfair advantage. Another one I got wrong didn't have to do with the WINTER Olympics so I am not counting that one either. Therefore, I got 7 out of 8 for a 87.5% which might be closer to a Gold Medal.

  2. My favorite Winter Olympics joke:

The Biathalon - How many alpine snipers are into this?

  3. G - O - L - D...9/10!!!! I missed the "how many athletes are expected to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics?" I'd like to dedicate this trophy to the Americas (hint for one of the questions)!

As for the "Cool Runnings" question...can you say best olympics movie ever..."feel the rhythm feel the rhyme come on everybody it's bobsled time!"

    I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!!!!
