Favorite Things February #2: Instantly good

When I was first pregnant with Annika I cut out all caffeine from my diet. It's been over 5 years and I have let some of the stimulant back into my daily routine. Since Dan doesn't drink coffee I can't justify making a whole pot of coffee in the morning, because, well, I would drink it all. So I limit myself to one cup of steaming hot goodness a day. Enter another one of my favorite things.

Instant Coffee.

What?! you may be saying. You get one cup of coffee a day and you make it instant?!

Yes, and I drink it proudly. Really, I am very European. They are known for their love of instant coffee. You could even say I am cutting edge, okay, you don't have to say that. And how do I drink my coffee?! Strong and black...just like any good Dutch woman! Keep the sugar and milk for the Cheerios.
When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is turn on the stove for my tea kettle, and just when the kids' breakfast is put together the kettle starts to whistle. I love that sound. The kids even say "Mommy your coffee is ready." Mmm...St@rbucks has nothing on me! That little rounded teaspoon of instant coffee granules mixed into a hot mug of water is all I need to get my day going and (will you allow me to say?) it's good to the last drop!

So no caffeinated tea or soda? Good for you!

  2. The coffee snob I live with would be horrified. I'm just impressed. I can't handle caffeine. Ever. And I need it.
