Favorite Things February #3:Old school is cool

3 days and going strong! Only 25 more favorite things to come up with!

On to #3. Remember how yesterday I said I was cutting edge? Well, I may have to backtrack just a bit, o.k. a lot. This favorite thing will show you why.

Yes, that is a picture of my agenda or weekly planner. I don't have a fancy dancy Iphone or Droid or C3PO or whatever. I don't even text. I don't have a palm or blackberry. And much to my husband's dismay I don't use outlook. The way I keep my life organized, or should I say, the way I attempt to keep my life organized is with good old paper and pencil. My pencil is not even mechanical! You should see my pencil sharpener, hello 1999!

You may remember me writing about this over a year ago. Every November I hunt down the next year's calendar among the office supplies at my local Target or Walmart. Each year it seems the selection gets less and less. The section of the aisle for day planners gets smaller and smaller. But, I don't see myself changing. If you look at any given day in my planner you will see what my day looks like and even what we are going to have to dinner. I am afraid if I lost this my family wouldn't eat, o.k. I don't rely on it that much, but pretty close! I need to have the feeling of writing something down to help me remember. It's that whole visual learning thing, I guess.

How about you, my loyal reader, what do you use that you would consider old school? Any rotary phones still out there? How about cameras that use, gasp, 35 mm film?! According to urbandictionary.com, old school is "Anything that is from an earlier era and looked upon with high regard or respect. Can be used to refer to music, clothing, language, or anything really."

Yeah, that's right, look upon my daily planner with respect. Thank you.

  1. I almost bought that planner today! =) I've been wanting to go old school on my calendar too! I've been putting all of our events and activities on my phone calendar and then it gives me an alert a day or hours in advance but I'm the same way, I want to see it (bigger), and write it, and have a hard copy of it, hard copy, what?, haha. I always have to have it with me too, I tried to carry a smaller purse, but that didn't work out. ;) I don't use Outlook either and Hubby laughs at me too.

  2. OUTLOOK!!!!!! It is the only way, but I understand for those not in a office all day...it would just be easier to sync our schedules if you ladies were a little more progressive :).

  3. It is so nice to know that I am not the only one behind the times and still uses a paper planner. This year I bought the Mom's Plan It calendar for the first time and love it because it has a grocery list section and a "this weeks" menu section" for each week, and they both rip out. I am loving it and yes, my family wouldn't eat either if I lost it. So glad to know someone else that's "old school" I don't text either. I plan on always being this way!

  4. I go old school as well ... I need to write it down or I'll forget it. Getting a new calendar at the end of the year is just so gratifying!

Stick to the good ole pen and paper ... It will never run out of battery or have potential to burn a hard drive!

  5. Is letter writing considered old school yet? If so then that is my old school thing ;). FYI you should check out Amy Knapp's Family Organizer - it rocks! You can even order a cover for an additional fee. I ordered it last year to keep track of MOPS steering team stuff and I loved the layout! http://www.familyorganizer.com/

  6. I don't have a paper planner. But I am a little old school in the fact that I just create my own calendar on the computer and print it out and put it on the fridge. I used to put bdays on a snapfish calendar and put things on that calendar but those little squares weren't big enough for all the info I needed. And it was annoying writing library by hand on every wed rather than copying and pasting :)
