On Fridays, we have homemade pizza. Usually we make one all cheese and one ham and pineapple (Dan's fave). I have been experimenting with some more exoctic pizzas...a great combo is kalamata olives, feta cheese, chicken, and red onions--Anna and I made that tonight--goooood stuff!! The kids don't like it, but mama does. I think this whole homemade pizza on the weekends stems back to when we used to have homemade pizza on Saturday nights when we were growing up. We would have pizza, take baths and watch an episode of Animal Express or Fight Back! with David Horowitz. Pizza night is a favorite around here!
Here's my favorite pizza dough recipe (it makes 2 pizzas):
3 1/2-3/4 cups flour (depends on how dry or humid it is)
2 packages (4 1/2 tsp) of instant yeast
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/2 tsp olive oil.
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a mixer with a dough hook. Slowly add the water. Mix until the dough comes together to form a ball and is smooth and not too sticky (about 5-8 minutes). Rub oil on ball of dough and around the sides of the bowl. Let rise about 2 hours. Roll out dough onto baking sheets dusted with cornmeal, put on toppings. Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 15 minutes, or until crust is cooked and cheese is bubbly and melted.
The kiddos are pleased.

Despite what it looks like, Taryn really is smiling.
Oh, yes, there was some humming. (We aren't sure when she will stop this little habit. But, for now it's still pretty cute).

Will it taste as yummy if I use pizza dough from a can ;-)??
ReplyDeleteDo you have a wheat pizza crust recipe you like? Says the mom of a gluten free boy.
ReplyDeleteI recently started making home-made pizza dough (Ina Garten) and making homemade sauce by just seasoning some tomato sauce. I need to try some other topping instead of just turkey pepperoni.
